Parks and Green Spaces in Aldershot: Facilities and Access
Where to walk, play and watch wildlife in Aldershot, with facilities taken from Rushmoor Borough Council and the sites' own pages.
Manor Park is Aldershot's main park and has a play area, skate park and public toilets. Aldershot Park has pitches, a fishing lake and play zones, Brickfields has a car park but no toilets, and Rowhill Nature Reserve's field centre opens Sunday and bank holiday afternoons. Rushmoor's pages do not list parking or cafés for every park.
Aldershot has a good spread of public parks, a nature reserve and a canal within easy reach. Everything below is taken from Rushmoor Borough Council's own park pages or the reserve's and canal's official sites. Where a page does not mention toilets, parking or a café, we say so rather than guess.
Manor Park
Rushmoor describes Manor Park (High Street, GU12 4JU) as Aldershot's main park. It has a safari-themed play area for children up to 12, three recently refurbished tennis courts, a basketball court near the Church Lane East entrance, a concrete skate park (a bowl, spine ramp, speed hump, pyramid with grind boxes and a long quarter pipe), a large pond and a scout hut. Public toilets with baby changing are listed, and accessible toilets need a RADAR key. The Heroes' Shrine, a Second World War memorial unveiled in 1950, and a Peace Garden opened in 2018 are in the park.
Aldershot Park
Aldershot Park (Guildford Road, off Lower Farnham Road, GU12 4BP) is the big open one: sports pitches, a fishing lake run by Aldershot Park Angling Club, and a children's play area with separate zones for different ages. Accessible toilets are at the park entrance. Paths include the 23-mile Blackwater Valley Path. The council's page does not list a car park or café for the park itself.
Municipal Gardens
Municipal Gardens (Grosvenor Road, GU11 1DP) is a Victorian-style garden that opened in 1904, five minutes' walk from the town centre. The playground is for children up to 12 and has a hill-fort climbing structure, a pirate ship, a rope swing, swings, slides and a seesaw. There is also an AdiZone multi-use games area and fitness equipment. The Cenotaph is here. The page gives no information on toilets, parking or a café.
Princes Gardens
Princes Gardens (top of the High Street, GU11 1BJ, opposite Princes Hall) is a small town-centre garden with flower beds, grass and seating, a community bandstand, and sculptures including a charging horse on a section of Bailey bridge and a monument to Kulbir Thapa, the first Gurkha Victoria Cross recipient (unveiled in 2021). The council's page does not list toilets, parking or a play area.
Brickfields Country Park
Brickfields Park is off Boxalls Lane (GU11 3QJ), on a former Victorian brickworks site, and is under eight acres with a wildlife pond and woodland. There is a main car park signposted from Boxalls Lane. There are no public toilets on site; the council says the nearest are at Manor Park. The Friends of Brickfields keep the paths and run work parties, and there are free wellbeing walks on Mondays at 1.30pm. See the Brickfields website.
Rowhill Nature Reserve
Rowhill Nature Reserve (Cranmore Lane, GU11 3BD) is 55 acres on the edge of Aldershot and the source of the River Blackwater, with woodland, heathland, meadow, a sphagnum bog, ponds and streams. Cycling is not allowed. There is an accessible path via Parkland Grove, off Weybourne Road. The field centre is open on Sundays and bank holiday afternoons from 2pm to 4.30pm. Volunteers from the Rowhill Nature Reserve Society manage it; see rowhillnaturereserve.org. The council page mentions a bus stop on Cranmore Lane but does not list a car park.
Wellington Statue and Round Hill
The Duke of Wellington equestrian statue stands on Round Hill. According to Wikipedia it was unveiled at Hyde Park Corner in 1846, moved to Aldershot and re-erected in 1885, and restored in 2004. It is looked after by Aldershot Garrison, so check access arrangements before you go. Rushmoor's heritage trails include a Wellington trail.
Basingstoke Canal
The towpath runs through Ash Vale and into Hampshire near Aldershot. The main visitor centre is at Mytchett Place Road, Mytchett, GU16 6DD, run by Surrey County Council, with a free car park, accessible toilets, picnic areas and a café. Opening hours change between summer and winter, and the Surrey page notes boat trips and hire may be paused when water levels are low, so read the Basingstoke Canal visitor information before you set off.
Other play areas
Rushmoor's parks and playgrounds page also lists play areas at Aspen Grove, Calton Gardens, Green Way, Highclere Road, Howard Cole Way/Alexandra Road, Kingsway, Redan Hill Gardens and St Michael's Gardens, and a floodlit multi-use games area at Ivy Road recreation ground.
