Aldershot Recycling Centre (Ivy Road Tip): Booking, Permits, DIY Waste

Where is it?

Aldershot Household Waste Recycling Centre, run by Hampshire County Council, is on Ivy Road, off North Lane, in Aldershot. Hampshire's recycling centre finder has the official listing for the site.

Do you need to book?

Yes. Hampshire says you need an appointment to visit any of its household waste recycling centres. You can book online. Bookings can be made up to a week ahead, and same-day slots are available subject to availability. You need the registration number of the vehicle you plan to use. When you book, you give the address the waste came from and say whether you are bringing any DIY waste. See Hampshire's digital bookings and permits page for the full rules.

What can you take?

Hampshire's centres take most household waste. The Aldershot site handles materials such as glass, metals, wood, electrical equipment, batteries and construction waste, according to its directory listing, but exactly which streams Aldershot accepts should be checked on the Hampshire page before you load the car. Garden waste can be taken to a centre free of charge, as Rushmoor itself points out for residents who do not subscribe to its brown bin service.

DIY waste and charges

Some DIY and construction materials count towards a household allowance, and anything over it is charged. Hampshire's household DIY and chargeable waste page says soil and rubble such as stone, concrete, bricks, tiles and paving slabs can go in as part of the free household allowance. Plasterboard over the allowance is charged. Check the page for the current allowance sizes and other charged items.

Vans, pick-ups and trailers

Under Hampshire's van, pick-up and trailer permit rules:

• You need a permit to visit with a van or pick-up. That includes vehicles with no rear windows or rear seats, an open back, or a closed-cab pick-up.
• The permit is issued digitally and there is an administration fee. Hampshire’s permit page gives the current fee and how many visits it covers.
• Trailers up to 1.8 metres long do not need a permit. Trailers from 1.8 to 3 metres need one. Trailers over 3 metres are not allowed.
• A hired van can be used if it is hired for three days or fewer and you show the hire agreement to site staff.
