Rushmoor Borough Council announced on 17 September 2026 that 82 affordable homes are coming to Union Yard in Aldershot town centre, delivered by VIVID. There will be 47 social housing flats and 35 shared ownership flats, in one and two-bedroom sizes.

Rushmoor Borough Council announced on 17 September 2026 that 82 affordable homes will be provided at Union Yard, the town-centre regeneration site in Aldershot.

What is planned

The homes will be delivered by housing association VIVID. According to the council, the scheme is made up of:

  • 47 social housing flats, and
  • 35 shared ownership flats.

All 82 are a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.

Who can apply

The two types of home are allocated differently:

  • Social housing will be let through the council's choice-based lettings scheme.
  • Shared ownership homes will be available through VIVID.

The council has not said, in the announcement, when the first residents will be able to apply, so anyone interested should keep an eye on the council's housing pages and on VIVID's own channels.

Where it fits

The council describes Union Yard as a site that has turned a town-centre plot into a mix of new homes, student accommodation, commercial and retail space, a public square and Makers' Yard, a creative workspace for small businesses. The new flats sit close to local shops, services, leisure facilities and the railway station, which makes them a realistic option for people who do not drive.

Councillor Keith Dibble said: "These affordable homes will help meet local housing need while supporting a thriving new community."

Mike Shepherd, VIVID's Chief Investment Officer, said: "These new apartments will provide more people with a quality home in the heart of Aldershot."

What it means for residents

For households on the housing register, this is a new supply of homes in the town rather than on its edge. For people who want to buy but cannot afford a full mortgage, shared ownership offers a way to buy a share and rent the rest. And for town-centre traders, more people living next to the high street is generally good news for footfall.

If you want to find out whether you could qualify, start with the council's housing and choice-based lettings information, or contact VIVID about shared ownership. The council's communications team can be reached on 01252 398 744 or at communications@rushmoor.gov.uk for press queries.
